Delayed delivery (Slow labor) 지연 분만
Delayed delivery is a delivery that takes an extraordinary amount of time to deliver due to various causes.
Delayed delivery includes delayed delivery in the prolonged latent phase and delayed delivery in the protracted active phase.
In the case of the first delivery, the total labor time is 20 hours or more, and in the second delivery, the cervix is only slightly open after the pain continues for 14 hours. do. Delayed latent phase Delayed delivery can occur in the following cases:
When the cervix is not ready for normal delivery,
When the fetus’s delivery position is inappropriate, When the delivery department is overly calming down, etc
During normal delivery, the cervical canal is gradually widened, and the active phase begins when the diameter of the cervical canal becomes 3~5cm.
From this point on, when the cervix is open to about 10cm, it is normal to open about 1cm or more in an hour. In other words, it usually takes about 4 to 8 hours for the cervix to fully open after the onset of active delivery.
Even after the onset of active delivery, the cervix can open up to less than 1 cm in an hour. In this case, the delivery time is delayed than normal.
This delivery is called protracted active phase delayed delivery. Whether the baby’s delivery position is abnormal, the delivery department is overly sedated, or when delivery with epidural anesthesia, delayed delivery can occur.
From the beginning of normal delivery, the cervical canal continues to open, so when the diameter of the canal is about 10 cm, the baby’s head can come out. Copyright ⓒ 2014 John Sangwon Lee, MD., FAAP
