Varicose vein during pregnancy 임신 중 정맥류
If varicose veins occur in the lower extremities during pregnancy, varicose veins can be lessened by placing the legs on the wall as shown in the figure.
Varicose veins are when a part of the subcutaneous vein that is located just below the skin layer is stretched abnormally like an axillary spine.
Varicose veins can develop in any vein in the body.
During pregnancy, varicose veins are more likely to develop in the veins around the calf, external genitalia, and anus.
Varicose veins may be more common in families with varicose veins. Varicose veins are more common if you are obese or sit or stand somewhere for a long time.
During pregnancy, when the veins around it are pressed into the uterus containing the fetus, the venous blood in the veins below the pressed veins easily passes through the pressed veins as usual and does not flow normally toward the heart.
At this time, varicose veins may develop in a part of the vein below the part of the vein pressed in the uterus.
The normal venous circulation process is that venous blood in the veins in the legs passes through the venous blood vessels in the groin and external genitalia, passes through the venous blood vessels in the pelvic cavity, then passes through the inferior vena cava and flows into the right atrium. When veins in the pelvic cavity around the uterus are pressed into the uterus, blood from the veins in the calf, vulva, or anus cannot flow well to the heart. At this time, venous blood in the pelvic cavity cannot flow well toward the heart, and venous blood is abnormally accumulated in venous blood vessels in the legs, vulva, and anus below the site of the venous vessels in the pelvic cavity pressed by the uterus. In addition, varicose veins may occur in some of the veins below the pelvic cavity vein that is pressed into the uterus.
Most varicose veins during pregnancy usually recover normally within 2-3 weeks after delivery. In general, there is no pain in the area with varicose veins, but in rare cases, discomfort and mild pain may occur. It is common that no special treatment is required. However, in rare cases, it does not disappear spontaneously.
Varicose veins should be prevented during pregnancy.
If the leg or lower body is tight for some reason, varicose veins can develop in the lower body or in the veins of the legs.
Do not fasten your socks and don’t wear tight tights.
If you stand and work for a long time during pregnancy, it is easy to develop varicose veins.
When you have to stand and work for a long time, you should exercise your legs to walk in gaps so that blood circulation in the lower body is good. If you sit with your legs together, the venous blood in your legs cannot flow well toward the heart, so it is easy to get varicose veins in the leg veins, and the already formed leg varicose veins may worsen. When you have to sit and work for a long time during pregnancy, you can sometimes sit on the floor or lay down on a chair with your legs stretched out on a chair to circulate venous blood in the lower body toward the heart.
At this time, the venous blood of the lower leg passes through the vein of the thigh by gravity and easily flows into the venous blood vessel in the pelvic cavity.
Do not bend the knee for a long time so that blood in the lower leg veins flows well into the veins in the leg veins above the knee, and do not wear tight-fitting stockings. When traveling long distances in a car, you should stop frequently and stand and walk for a while to ensure good blood circulation in your lower body.
During pregnancy, varicose veins may develop in the legs or vulva, or the feet and legs may be swollen.
If you lie down on the floor, put your feet on the wall, and put your legs on the wall for 2 to 5 minutes, several times a day, swollen feet such as varicose veins can improve. According to your doctor’s instructions, you can prevent and treat varicose veins in your legs with therapeutic elastic stockings.
Less venous blood accumulates in the veins where varicose veins have occurred just before waking up in the morning and doing activities.
In the morning, you can put on therapeutic elastic stockings just before you go to bed and take off your therapy elastic stockings right before you go to bed.
Such treatment should also be done according to the doctor’s instructions.
Varicose veins may be less if you have enough mental and physical rest during pregnancy. If the hips and legs are supported a little higher than the upper body with one or two pillows, the venous blood in the vulva, vagina, and anus can easily flow into the veins in the pelvic cavity by gravity, so varicose veins can be healed.
