Leg cramps during pregnancy임신 중 다리 경련
If you have cramps in your legs, you can temporarily improve with your feet stretched out against the wall and briefly. The cramping symptoms can be improved if the cramped foot is stretched out when there is another person beside it, and if the person next to the cramped foot holds the cramped foot with both hands and continuously pushes the foot toward the head of the head.
Leg cramps can occasionally occur during pregnancy.
Convulsions can happen suddenly. When cramping occurs, it can cause severe pain in the leg. Leg cramps can occur at any time during pregnancy, but they are more common around the 7th to 9th month of pregnancy.
The cause is still unknown. However, there is a theory that it occurs when the concentration of magnesium or calcium in the body is low, and there is a theory that leg cramps may occur at night due to fatigue during the day.
There is also a theory that more physical activity during the day causes more fluid to accumulate in the tissues in the legs, resulting in leg cramps.
There is also a theory that leg cramps occur when the uterus containing the growing fetus presses the blood vessels or tissues in the pelvic cavity around it.
Leg cramps usually occur more during sleep than when awake. If the leg cramps suddenly occur while standing, sitting, or lying down, the cramp can be stopped by placing your back on the floor or on the bed and straightening the leg that has cramped after your eyes. At this point, if someone is next to you, you can stop the convulsion better by receiving the following treatment with the help of that person. Push the knee of the convulsed leg from top to bottom with one hand of the operator, straighten the knee, and at the same time, hold the other palm against the front of the sole of the convulsive leg, and the face of the person convulsing the sole of the foot Continue to push as hard as you can.
After one to two minutes of treatment like this, it is common for the leg cramps to stop without any further symptoms.
If leg cramps continue after 1 to 2 minutes of treatment, remove both hands that were constantly pushing from the spasmodic leg, and repeat the same treatment as the first treatment. It is common to stop these treatments by repeating them until the convulsions are over.
When there is no one to help, the spasms can be stopped if the pregnant woman holds the soles of her convulsed legs against the bed or wall and extends them continuously to the extent that the leg can be stretched out.
If a leg cramp occurs while standing, the cramp may no longer occur if you put the cramped sole of the foot on the floor and keep the leg straight while applying strength to the leg.
Also,if you have a slight leg cramp, you may end the cramp by walking barefoot on the floor. Massaging your cramped leg can help relieve cramping.
If you have frequent and severe leg cramps, you should consult your doctor. Copyright ⓒ 2014 John Sangwon Lee, MD., FAAP
