한 번에 1명 이상의 태아를 임신할 때 다태임신 (多胎姙娠)이라고 한다. 한 번에 두 태아를 임신할 때는 쌍태임신 (雙胎姙娠), 세 태아를 임신할 때는 삼태임신 (三胎姙娠), 또는 네 태아를 임신할 때는 사태임신 (四胎姙娠)이라고 칭한다.

최근 미국에서는 한 번에 일곱 태아를 임신해서 제왕절개수술로 일곱 명의 아기들을 한 번에 분만한 예도 있다. 임신부의 연령이 35세 이상이면 일란성 쌍태아를 임신할 확률이 높아지고 이란성 쌍태아를 임신할 가능성은 35세 이전까지 높아지다가 35세 이후부터는 이란성 쌍태아를 임신할 가능성이 낮아진다. 여성의 친계 가족에게 이란성 쌍태아가 있으면 이란성 쌍태아를 임신을 할 가능성이 더 많다. 그래서 이란성 쌍태아 임신은 유전성이 있다고 본다.

쌍태임신을 일란성 쌍태임신과 이란성 쌍태임신으로 나눈다. 그리고 일란성 쌍태임신에서 태어난 아기를 일란성 쌍태아(Identical twin)라 하고 이란성 쌍태임신에서 태어난 아기를 이란성 쌍태아(Nonidentical twin / fraternal twin)라고 한다. 쌍태아의 ⅓은 일란성 쌍태아이고 ⅔는 이란성 쌍태아이다. 한 개의 난자와 한 개의 정자가 결합해서 수정된 후 그 수정란이 두 개의 배아로 분리되어 생긴 쌍태아를 일란성 쌍태아라 하고 한 번에 한 난소에서 두 개의 난자가 배란되거나, 한쪽 난소에서 한 개의 난자가 배란되고 그와 동시에 다른 쪽 난소에서 한 개의 난자가 배란될 때 각 난자가 각 정자와 결합해서 두 개의 수정란이 거의 동시 생기게 되고 그 결과로 이란성 쌍태임신이 된다.

한 개의 수정란이 두 개의 배아로 분리되면 일란성 쌍생아를 임신하게 되지만 세 개의 배아로 분리되면 일란성 삼태아를 임신하게 된다.

일란성 쌍태아는 똑같은 태반과 양막낭을 가질 수 있기도 하고 갖지 않을 수 있다. 그러나 각 태아는 자신의 탯줄을 갖는다. 일란성 쌍태아는 성별이 같고 같은 유전인자를 갖는다. 그리고 두발의 색, 눈의 색, 혈액형도 같다. 그러나 이란성 쌍태아를 임신했을 때는 각 태아가 서로 다른 탯줄을 가지고 있고 또 서로 다른 태반을 가지고 있다.

이란성 쌍태아는 성별이 같을 수 있고 다를 수 있다. 서로 다른 유전인자를 가질 수도 있다. 그리고 외관성으로 서로 다를 수 있다.

삼태아나 사태아 또는 그 이상의 경우 일란성 삼태아 또는 사태아일 수도 있고 삼란성 삼태아 또는 사란성 사태아일 수 있다. 어떤 삼태아의 경우 두 쌍태아는 일란성 쌍태아이고 다른 하나의 태아는 일란성이 아닌 태아일 수도 있다.

요즘 호르몬으로 임신을 시도하고 시험관 수정 임신으로 쌍태아나 그 이상의 다태아를 임신하는 확률이 더 많아졌다.

임신 5개월 경에는 태아 심장 박동소리를 청진기로 들을 수 있다. 쌍태 임신을 한 경우에는 태아 심장 박동소리를 임신부의 복부의 두 다른 부위에서 동시에 들을 수 있다. 그러나 울트라사운드 검사로 임신 12~14주에 단태 임신인지 또는 다태 임신인지 쉽게 진단할 수 있다. 이 때부터 때로는 일란성 쌍태인지 이란성 쌍태인지도 알 수 있다.

임신 5개월 이후 다태임신 (多胎姙娠)을 한 임신부의 배는 단태임신 (單胎姙娠)을 한 임신부의 배보다 더 많이 부르다. 다태임신을 한 임신부의 배를 진찰할 때 하나 이상의 태아의 머리를 발견할 수 있다.

쌍태임신을 하면 임신초기에 더 피로를 느끼고 입덧이 더 심히 날 수 있다. 임신부는 물론이고 남편도 쌍태임신을 했다는 진단을 받고 때로는 놀래기도 한다. 그러나 점점 기쁨과 다소 두려운 감정을 가지고 임신과 분만을 준비하는 것이 보통이다.

모유수유도, 인공영양 먹이기도, 크립도, 옷도, 기저귀도, 사랑도 모두 두 아기를 위해 준비해야 한다. 또한 자녀양육을 하는데 어려움도 재미도 모든 것이 곱일 것이다.

다행히도 쌍태임신을 당신 혼자만 하는 것이 아니고 많은 사람들이 쌍태 임신을 했고 그들이 경험했던 쌍태의 임신과 분만 그리고 쌍둥이를 양육할 때 가졌던 산 경험을 토대로 당신의 쌍태 임신를 도와줄 수 있다. 또 미국 전역에 쌍태 임신과 쌍태아를 가진 사람들 클럽도 있다. 그들의 도움도 받을 수 있다.

그리고 모유수유 장려 클럽, 분만전 임신분만교육, 의사와 간호사, 참고서 등을 통해 쌍태의 임신과 분만 쌍둥이 양육에 관해 많은 정보를 얻고 그에 대처하면 좋을 것이다.

쌍태아를 임신하든지 그 이상 다태아를 임신하면 자간 전증이나 빈혈 등 임신 합병증이 더 잘 생길 수 있다. 그런 이유로 혈압을 더 자주 측정하고 소변단백질 검사를 더 자주 하고 분만전 임신검진을 받으러 병원에 더 자주 간다.

쌍태아 임신을 하면 태아 성장 발육을 체크하기 위해 태아 울트라사운드 검사를 더 자주하고 가정 분만을 권장하지 않고 병원분만을 해야한다.

쌍태아 임신에서 50%에서 임신 37주 전에 분만되는 것이 보통이다. 그리고 제왕절개 분만율도 더 높다.

It is called multiple pregnancy (多胎姙娠) when pregnant with more than one fetus at a time. It is called twin pregnancy (雙胎姙娠) when conceiving two fetuses at a time, three pregnancy (三胎姙娠) when conceiving three fetuses, or four-fighting pregnancy (四胎姙娠) when conceiving four fetuses.

Recently, in the United States, there is an example of conceiving seven fetuses at a time and delivering seven babies at once by cesarean section.

If a pregnant woman is 35 years of age or older, the likelihood of conceiving an identical twin is increased, and the likelihood of conceiving a fraternal twin is increased until the age of 35, and the likelihood of conceiving a fraternal twin is decreased after the age of 35.

If a woman’s relatives have fraternal twins, they are more likely to conceive of fraternal twins. So I think that fraternal twin pregnancy is hereditary.

And babies born from identical twin pregnancy are called Identical twins, and babies born from fraternal twin pregnancy are called fraternal twins (Nonidentical twin / fraternal twin).

Of twins, ⅓ is an identical twin and ⅔ is a fraternal twin.

One egg and one sperm are fertilized and the fertilized egg is separated into two embryos. The resulting twin is called an identical twin, and two eggs ovulate in one ovary at a time, or one egg ovulates in one ovary.

At the same time, when one egg is ovulated in the other ovary, each egg combines with each sperm to produce two fertilized eggs almost simultaneously, resulting in fraternal twin pregnancy.

When one fertilized egg is divided into two embryos, it is conceived with identical twins, but when it is separated into three embryos, it is conceived with identical three embryos. An identical twin may or may not have the same placenta and amniotic sac.

However, each fetus has its own umbilical cord. Identical twins are of the same sex and have the same genetic factors.

And the color of the hair, the color of the eyes, and the blood type are the same. However, when pregnant with fraternal twins, each fetus has a different umbilical cord and a different placenta.

Fraternal twins can be of the same sex and can be different.

They may have different genetic factors. And they can be different in appearance.

In the case of three fetuses, three fetuses or more, they may be identical three fetuses or four fetuses, and maybe three embryos, three fetuses, or three birth fetuses.

In some cases, two twins may be identical twins and the other may be non-identical.

These days, there is a higher probability of conceiving twins or more with a test tube fertilization pregnancy while trying to conceive with hormones. Around the fifth month of pregnancy, the sound of the fetal heartbeat can be heard with a stethoscope.

In a twin pregnancy, the sound of the fetal heartbeat can be heard at the same time in two different areas of the pregnant woman’s abdomen. However, it is easy to diagnose whether a single pregnancy or multiple pregnancies is performed at 12-14 weeks of pregnancy with an ultrasound test.

Twin pregnancy can lead to more fatigue and more severe morning sickness in the early stages of pregnancy.

However, it is common to prepare for pregnancy and delivery with increasingly joyful and somewhat fearful feelings. Breastfeeding, artificial nutrition, creep, clothes, diapers, and love should all be prepared for both babies.
