Postpartum rest and relaxation 산후 휴식
After delivery, during postpartum recovery (care) at the hospital or at home, the mother should take sufficient rest both mentally and physically.
Most of the mothers who have given birth naturally have a day or two at the hospital for postpartum recovery, and then it is difficult to relax mentally and physically at home after being discharged from the hospital with the baby.
After the wife is dismissed, you should do your best to get enough rest and take care of her well. Nursing mothers need more rest than non-feeding mothers.
Of course, the more you rest, the less fatigue you will be and you will have more milk to feed your baby.
“The mother should take good care of herself” means that she should rest mentally and physically and consume enough balanced foods.
Until a few decades ago, in Korea, when a child was born, foreigners were prohibited from entering the house by placing a gold string in the doorway of the house for three days.
It was a good habit to promote the health and well-being of mothers and babies exhausted from pregnancy and childbirth and to give mothers, babies, fathers, and families a private and quiet time-space.
Also, I think it was practical and prevented infectious diseases. For at least three days after childbirth, the old pregnancy dissolution habit, when the mother rested mentally and physically in a warm house, ate well-balanced foods such as warm rice and seaweed soup and prepared well. It was much more beautiful.
The old postpartum habit in Korea, which prevented not only family members but also outside people from visiting and contacting the mother and baby, was quite meaningful medically so that the baby and mother were not transmitted to pathogens such as viruses or bacteria for at least three days after childbirth. It was appropriate. Copyright ⓒ 2014 John Sangwon Lee, MD., FAAP
