Constipation and stool incontinence after childbirth 분만 후 변비증과 대변 실금증
The mother can develop constipation in the first few weeks after delivery.
Gastrointestinal peristalsis can be delayed with therapeutic pain relievers, anesthetics, or certain medications during delivery, and the use of such medications during or after delivery can lead to constipation in the mother.
In addition, the mother does not properly perform physical activities after childbirth, but lies still and rests, is mentally tense, the vulva and anus are sore due to perineal incisions, etc. It is more susceptible to constipation.
Constipation is prevented if you eat enough foods high in fiber, such as rice or cereal made from rice or rice, and fresh fruits and vegetables, and drink enough drinks such as plain water, fruit and vegetable juice, and exercise appropriately.
It may not look good. If you have constipation even if you eat enough balanced foods and do the physical exercise properly, get a doctor’s diagnosis and treat constipation with Metamucil or Dulcolax medicines for constipation.
If a breastfeeding mother treats constipation with too strong laxatives, the lactating baby can also have diarrhea.
Forceps delivery, severe perineal rupture, perineal incision surgery, etc. can cause damage to the sphincter of the anus.
Depending on the extent of the damage, some of the stool can come out spontaneously over a period of weeks or months, and often farts.
Fecal incontinence can also occur. Minor constipation recovers well with pelvic floor exercise, but if not, consult a doctor for treatment. Copyright ⓒ 2014 John Sangwon Lee, MD., FAAP
