Baby blue and postpartum depression after childbirth 분만 후 베이비 불루와 산후 우울증
Some mothers become discouraged and depressed for no apparent reason.
For about 10 to 15 days after giving birth, 85% of the mothers experience mood changes, emotions become sensitive and confused, anxiety, crying, and lack of taste.
Some mothers are very discouraged and depressed for no apparent reason. These symptoms are called baby blue, or postpartum blue.
These symptoms are considered normal.
The cause is not known for sure, but it is caused by hormonal changes caused by childbirth, lack of sleep, and fatigue.
When you relax, your baby begins to sleep well, and the postpartum fatigue recovers, it is common for the baby blue to recover naturally.
Depression can occur in about 10-20% of mothers in the first 6 weeks after childbirth, and the degree of depression can be most severe in the 10th week after childbirth. This depression is called postpartum depression.
Postpartum depression and baby blue are different.
Typical symptoms of postpartum depression include:
- Losing interest in the usual activities in daily life
- I can’t concentrate well,
- It’s hard to make decisions,
- Feeling tired
- Feeling guilty
- Losing confidence
- She thinks he’s a worthless human being
- Want to commit suicide
- Losing weight, gaining weight,
- changing your taste buds,
- worrying too much about your baby,
- etc.
A number of symptoms can lead to symptoms of severe depression. Most of obstetricians do not have the opportunity to treat mothers with such severe postpartum depression around 6 weeks after birth, and pediatricians are more likely to treat mothers with postpartum depression who come to the pediatrician for health problems of the baby. If you experience depressive symptoms, whether it is mild or severe, you should consult your pediatrician, obstetrician, or internal medicine doctor for appropriate treatment soon. If you don’t get the right treatment right away, it can be a problem for the mother, baby, and family right now and for a lifetime.
Postpartum depression can also occur during postpartum recovery at the hospital or during postpartum recovery at home.
The cause is still unknown, but there is a theory that postpartum depression occurs due to changes in hormone secretion during pregnancy, delivery and postpartum recovery. Sometimes thyroid hormones can be linked to postpartum depression. And if you have depression in your family medical history, it’s easy to develop postpartum depression. Fortunately, most postpartum baby blues last for 10 to 14 days postpartum and then disappear naturally.
However, postpartum depression is likely to recur. Again, explaining the cause and treatment, Postpartum depression can easily occur when you don’t get enough rest after childbirth
when you don’t get enough sleep because you wake up frequently,
when your baby cries often, or when the mother is tired and nervous. For some time after delivery, the breast hurts, the stomach hurts and is uncomfortable, and the perineal incision can be painful and uncomfortable.
After delivery,
some mothers may feel uncomfortable sitting,
standing or lying down.
Even if a very healthy and innocent baby cries a little,
there are also mothers who are mistaken for crying because of some abnormality,
and worry too much without the need.
Because of that, I can’t sleep properly and I wake up often after sleeping.
Also, most nursing mothers have to wake up at night and feed their babies frequently.
At this time, some babies do not sleep well even after eating enough of her breast milk and continue to cry,
making her mother a lot worried. She is worried and depressed that some mothers don’t go well, whether it’s a small housework or a big deal.
After delivery, some mothers do not reasonably accept that their body has changed a lot and are worried a lot.
After the new baby is born, she becomes aware of financial problems for her couple as well as various changes in the marital relationship.
It is said that postpartum depression is caused by these various reasons and changes in hormone secretion.
After delivery, the mother and father, as well as her entire family, have to live differently from the way they lived before the baby was born. All members of the family must change their daily life patterns to match the number of more members.
Husbands and ex-family members need to understand a mother with postpartum depression.
Only then can the mental and physical changes that come from pregnancy or childbirth recover quickly, and depression can recover quickly.
Rarely, some postpartum depression does not heal well and lasts for a long time. In this case, you should enjoy spending time with friends, family, or husband as much as possible.
In addition, if you continue to have a hobbies that you have had before delivery and have fun after delivery, your depression will get better sooner. If the severe postpartum depression does not heal well and lasts a long time, you should seek active treatment from a specialist.
Women with postpartum depression become easily depressed and sometimes cry often with tears.
The husband needs to understand and love her wife’s feelings, who have postpartum depression, more than ever.
One of the ways to treat postpartum baby blue and postpartum depression is to help her wife by taking a leave of one to two weeks postpartum if possible.
Treat postpartum depression with drugs, counseling, etc., consume enough balanced foods, exercise appropriately, meet friends, get acquainted with, go shopping, get in touch with a fresh environment, take a light walk, and go out to a mother’s meeting where you can help each other and share your feelings with each other.
You can improve your symptoms by living while thinking about life more positively. Sometimes it can lead to useless guilt.
We humans do not have perfect people. If that guilt isn’t resolved, they receive a gown sling. Copyright ⓒ 2014 John Sangwon Lee, MD., FAAP
