갓 태어난 아기가 건강하면 신생아 크립에서 간호 받다가 퇴원하는 것이 보통이다. 갓 태어난 아기에게 때로는 산소 호흡치료가 필요하면 이런 크립에서 치료받다가 보통 크립으로 옮기는 것이 보통이다.

보육기
신생아에게 어떤 이상이 있거나 미숙아로 태어날 때 때로는 이런 보육기 내에서 간호 치료를 받는다.
신생아 황달을 치료할 때쓰는 형광등과 보육기
그리고 입 속이나 비강 속, 인두 등 상하기도 내에 있는 점액이나 피를 소독된 흡인구나 흡인기계를 이용해 흡입해서 숨길을 열어 숨을 잘 쉬게 한다.한 개의 탯줄이 아기의 배꼽에서 태반까지 연결되어 있다. 갓 태어난 아기의 배꼽에서 2㎝ 정도 떨어진 탯줄 부위를 탯줄 클램프나 소독된 실로 두 군데를 잡아매고 잡아 맨 부분에서부터 태반 쪽으로 0.5∼1㎝ 정도 떨어진 부분을 소독된 가위로 자른다.
갓 태어난 아기를 머리와 상체를 하체보다 조금 낮게 아기 크립(Baby crib)에 눕히거나 시이트나 담요를 깐 바닥에 아기를 눕힌다. 그 다음 몸에 묻은 양수와 피를 부드럽고 따뜻한 마른 수건으로 빨리 씻는다.
그 다음, 숨을 잘 쉬도록 머리와 목 부위가 반듯하게, 살짝 옆으로 돌려 눕힌다. 입안, 콧구멍 속과 비강 속, 상하기도관 속에 고여 있는 양수나 점액, 또는 피가 중력에 의하여 입 안과 비강 속 밖으로 흘러나오도록 한다. 그리고 상체를 하체보다 좀 낮게 몇분 동안 눕힌다.
분만 중에도 의사는 아기의 머리가 산도 밖으로 나오자마자 가능한 한 입안과 비강 속 등에 고여 있는 피나 점액, 또는 양수 등을 흡인기계에 달인 카세터나 흡입구로 흡입해 낸다. 생후 1분 이내에 이 모든 처치를 해서 아기가 정상적으로 숨을 쉬게 한다.
금방 태어난 아기는 물 속에 잠겨 있는 금방 건져 내놓은 아기처럼 양수로 온 몸이 푹신 젖어 있고 끈적거린다.
온 몸에 묻은 피와 양수 등을 깨끗이 씻은 후 미리 준비해 놓은 따뜻한 담요로 아기를 춥지 않게 푹 싸준다. 아기가 정상 체온을 계속 유지할 때까지 아기를 따뜻하게 보온해야 한다.
엄마아빠는 갓 태어난 아기를 적어도 손으로 만져주고 안아주고, 엄마아빠의 살갗을 아기의 살갗에 대서 엄마 아빠와 자식간의 사랑의 반딩(Bonding, 사랑의 결속)을 굳건히 여기서부터 형성하기 시작해야 한다. 이렇게 출생한 아기에게 행복과 사랑을 약속하는 것이다.
가능하면 금방 태어난 아기를 엄마의 가슴에 올려놓고 안아줘야 한다. 특히 엄마아빠가 갓 태어난 아기를 안아주는 것은 상당히 중요하다. 그 아기에게 신체적 접촉이 전달할 수 있기 때문이다.
척추마취로 제왕절개 수술분만을 할 때도 수술분만대 위에서 수술을 받고 있는 엄마가 금방 난 아기를 손으로 만지고, 엄마의 얼굴을 아기의 얼굴에 대어 엄마와 아기 사이에 사랑의 반딩이 형성되는 것을 보고 있노라면 너무도 감사하다.
갓 태어난 아기와 탯줄
이렇게 갓 태어난 아기와 엄마아빠가 분만실에서 맞나 엄마와 아기 사이, 그리고 아빠와 아기 사이에 사랑의 유대가 태어난 후 바로 그 때부터 잘 형성되도록 해야 한다.
엄마·아빠와 아기 사이에 사랑의 유대를 이렇게 공고히 형성된 후에는 신생아실 간호사가 갓 태어난 아기의 발목에 아기의 이름표를 달아주고 족장(足掌)를 찍는다.
신생아 임질균성 결막염을 예방하기 위해서 질산은 안약이나 에리스로마이신 안약 등을 갓 태어난 아기의 눈에 통상적으로 넣는다.
신생아에게 비타민 K 부족증이 생겨 출혈할 수 있다. 비타민 K 부족증을 예방하기 위해서 비타민 K 주사를 갓 태어난 신생아에게 통상적으로 준다.
갓 태어난 아기의 활력 증상, 체중, 신장, 머리둘레와 가슴둘레를 잰다. 갓 태어난 아기가 전체적으로 건강한 것 같으면 나서부터 24시간 이내에 의사가 건강검진을 한다. 병원, 소아과 전문의, 아기에 따라 갓 태어난 아기의 건강 검진을 출생 후 일찍 또는 늦게 할 수 있다. 산모는 이제 아기에 사랑을 흠뻑해 준다.

The mucus or blood in the upper respiratory tract, such as the mouth, nasal cavity, or pharynx, is sucked out using a sterile aspiration machine to open the hide and breathe well.
