엄마 아빠의 눈에 눈물이 돈다. 엄마 아빠가 아기를 안아 줄 때 따뜻한 모아 접촉감 (母兒接觸感)을 느낀다.

아기도 모아 접촉감을 느낀다.

바로 이 때부터 아기는 엄마 아빠의 조건없는 진정한 사랑을 흠뻑 받으면서 자란다.

아기의 첫 울음소리. 그것은 아기의 첫 말이다. 첫 숨이다. 아기의 첫 말을 듣고 엄마아빠는 나는 너를 사랑한다고 첫 대화를 하는 순간 엄마, 아빠는 무엇을 느낄 것이다.

아기는 말로 자기의 감정을 다 표현할 수 없다. 그러나 엄마, 아빠가 기뻐하면 자기도 기뻐한다. 엄마, 아빠가 슬퍼하면 자기도 슬퍼한다

엄마 아빠는 말없이 그냥 안아 주는 것보다 “나는 너를 사랑한다”고 말을 하면서 안아줘야 한다.

이렇게 해서 엄마 아빠가 아기를 눈길로, 신체적 접촉으로 조건없이 진정으로 사랑해서 태어난 순간부터 아빠 엄마 자식 사이에 사랑의 유대가 견고히 형성되도록 한다.

이렇게 해서 형성된 엄마 아빠 자식 사이의 사랑의 유대는 어떤 방법으로도 끊으랴 해도 끊을 수 없게 된다.

아기의 생애의 첫 몇 분 동안은 엄마 아빠 아기에게 얼마나 중요한가!

아기의 첫 울음

임신이 됐다고 확진을 받은 날로부터 아이가 태어날 때까지 엄마 아빠는 아기가 어떻게 생겼을까 많이많이 생각했다.

머리가 곱슬거릴까, 코가 클까 오뚝할까, 아빠 같이 혈색이 좋고 건장하게 생겼을까, 거무스름할까, 얘기책에 나오는 왕자와 같이 잘생긴 아들일까, 아니면 공주 같이 예쁜 딸일까, 머리는 천재같이 좋을까, 골프는 타이거 우드같이 잘 칠 수 있을까, 수없이 많은 궁금증이 줄줄이 이어질 것이다.

머리끝부터 발끝까지 아기의 모습도 그려봤을 것이다.

새빨간 피가 묻은 금방 난 아기를 한 번도 보지 못한 산모도 있다.

더군다나 금방 태어난 아기를 안아주는 것도 두려워하는 아빠도 있다. 산실에서 의사가 주는 금방 난 아기를 엉겁결에 안고 땀을 흘리며 당황하는 첫 아기 아빠도 있다.

길고 이상하게 소형된 갓 태어난 아기 머리통을 보고 왜 저렇게 머리통이 생겼느냐고 의사에게 묻는 엄마 아빠도 있다. 금방 태어난 아기의 피부에 하얀 태지(胎脂)를 보고 걱정도 한다.

아기가 나자마자 다음과 같이 갓 태어난 아기를 간호해야 한다.

탯줄의 두 부분을 매고 맨 사이 부분을 자른 후 입안, 비강 속, 기도 속에 괸 양수나 엄마의 피 등을 중력에 의해서 자연적으로 흘러나오도록 아기의 머리와 상체를 하체보다 5〜15°정도 낮게 깨끗한 시트나 아기 크립에 눕힌다. 피, 양수, 태지 등을 따뜻하고 부드러운 마른 수건으로 닦아준다.

그와 동시에 흡입구나 흡입기계로 입안이나 비강 속에 괸 양수 등을 흡입해 낸다.

준비해 놓은 따뜻한 담요로 아기를 폭 싸서 뉜다. 1분 이내에 이런 간호를 다한다.

요즘 병원에서는 갓 태어난 아기에게 인공영양을 처음 먹이는 대신 신생아용 멸균 맹물이나 5% 포도당액을 생 후 한두 시간 경 먹이는 것이 보통이다.

건강이 허락하면, 가능하면 엄마는 아기에게 생후 곧 젖을 먹여도 된다. 갓 태어난 아기에게 처음 먹인 엄마의 젖, 맹물, 또는 포도당물을 토하지 않으면 엄마의 젖이나 인공영양을 아기에게 때를 맞춰 먹인다.

쪼글쪼글 하던 아기의 주름살도 생후 며칠이 지나면 없어지고 피부가 팽팽하고 보드랍고 고아진다.

갓 태어난 아기의 머리형태는 분만 중 엄마의 산도에 눌려 길어지고 두형이 이상해질 수 있다. 이렇게 이상하게 생긴 갓 태어난 아기의 머리를 몰딩(소형)됐다고 한다.

갓 태어난 아기의 머리를 손으로 살짝 눌러보면 물렁물렁할 정도로 연약하다. 여러 조각의 머리뼈로 형성된 두골 (頭骨)은 뇌를 싸고 있다.

신생아의 두골

머리의 뼈 조각 사이에는 봉합선이 있다. 머리뼈의 봉합선의 바로 위부분은 두피로 덮혀 있고, 봉합선의 바로 아랫부분의 아래에는 뇌가 있다. 갓 태어난 아기의 머리의 앞 부위에 대천문이 있다. 이 대천문을 숨구멍이라고도 한다. 대천문은 두피로 덮여 있고 머리 뼈로 덮여 있지 않는다. 대천문의 바로 아래에는 뇌가 있다.

대천문을 손으로 살살 만져보면 물렁물렁한 촉감이 있다. 두부의 뒷머리에 소천문이 있다. 소천문도 대천문 같이 머리뼈로 덮여 있지 않다.

대천문을 영어로 소프트 스파트(Soft spot)라고도 하고 우리말로는 숨구멍이라고 한다. 소천문은 대천문보다 훨씬 작다.

태아가 좁은 산도를 통과해서 태어날 때 두골을 형성하고 있는 여러 개의 머리 뼈 조각이 조금 이쪽저쪽으로 움직일 수 있고 태아의 머리가 산도의 크기와 모양에 적절하게 변화된다. 조물주의 힘을 여기서도 볼 수 있다.

태어날 때 태아가 머리에 대천문, 소천문, 봉합선 등이 없다면 태아의 머리가 좁은 산도를 통과해서 이 세상으로 태어나기가 어려울 것이다. 그리고 태아의 머리가 산도에 눌려 태아의 뇌(腦)가 손상될 수 있을 것이다.

태아의 두골을 형성한 여러 개의 머리 뼈의 조각이 산도의 크기와 모양에 따라 이쪽저쪽으로 조금씩 밀릴 수 있게 태아나 갓태어난 아기의 머리뼈가 생긴 것은 퍽이나 다행스러운 것이다.

이렇게 해서, 금방 태어난 아기의 머리 모양이 이상하게 삐뚤어지기도 하고, 길어지기도 한다. 이렇게 해서 생긴 소형도 태어난 후 하루나 이틀 후면 본래의 머리모양으로 되돌아간다.

갓 태어났을 때는 이상하게 생겼던 아기도 엄마, 아빠가 오래 전부터 그렸던 귀엽고 예쁜 아기가 된다.
